The PlayStation Network — commonly referred to as PSN — could apparently be at fault for crashes in Baldur's Gate 3 on PS5. That's according to the game's official Twitter account, which says that it's received reports of "sudden crashes" on Sony's current-gen system.
"Some PS5 players are experiencing sudden Baldur’s Gate 3 crashes in what appears to be a PSN-related issue," it wrote in a post from last night. "We’re investigating the problem, but for now, the workaround is to disconnect your PS5 from the internet."
We're not sure if we've ever heard of a developer blaming the network for technical issues like this, but we suppose the team must be fairly confident in its assumption or it wouldn't be posting it on social media. A bizarre situation that hopefully get sorted out — if it hasn't been already.
In related news, Patch 3 for Baldur's Gate 3 is set to drop later this week, on the 21st September. We don't know what it'll improve just yet, but it's expected to be a pretty significant update.

This hit me yesterday, but seems to be fine again today, so hopefully resolved whatever was going on!
Good thing there's a work around. I'll just disconnect my PS5 from the Internet to continue my online co-op playthrough.
Another reason gave the game 8/10 after 130 hours.. the technical issues. This could have done with 2-3 more months for dev time for the PS5 version.
Well PSN was playing up for me recently. I couldn't access my trophies, I just had a little icon of a trophy with a cross next to it. And every screenshot I took failed to upload. Could be linked somehow. Maybe BG3 is sending data about player activity to Larian - lots of games have stuff like this - but if PSN is down, it can cause crashes because of weird implementation?
The game hasn't even released yet here in Japan. Hopefully when it finally does it’s all patched up with no problems
@Matroska Yeah I was thinking it must be something to do with data sharing — PSN throwing up errors when the game's trying to communicate? Still, what a weird issue to have.
It started happening to me last night but so far tonight it's been fine. No issues at all.
@Kiefer-Sutherland This was my issue last night too.
I actually was having issues playing a bunch of games online with a friend, we tried Far Cry 6 and The Ascent too.
Since PSN is better today, assuming it's fine now. Someone on my friends list has been playing BG3 for like seven hours.
So dis was y trophies wouldn't load for me kool to know
Wake me up when they fix act3..every analysis shows that it's like a stop motion movie hitting around 18-24 fps.
@Kiefer-Sutherland I resolved it by disconnecting then loading character immediately saving the turning online back on and it worked. Hope it does for you.
@Sequel I know it's too expensive but to fair I can't remember the last time I had a issue. 😅
